VINICIUS LUMMERTZ

Secretary of Tourism Sao Paulo State Government
Vinicius Lummertz is currently Secretary of Tourism of Sao Paulo State Government. He was Minister of Tourism in President Michel Temer’s cabinet from April to December 2018. Previously, he was President of EMBRATUR from 2015 to 2018, and National Secretary of Tourism Policy of Ministry of Tourism from September 2012 to May 2015. Mr. Lummertz began his public career as Secretary of Planning, Budget and Management in the administration of Santa Catarina Governor Luis Henrique da Silveira, and was then Secretary of International Articulation. He was the creator and President of the State Company of PPPs and Concessions of Santa Catarina, Technical Director of Sebrae Nacional and author of the book “Brazil:World Tourism Power”. Mr. Lummertz is a graduate of the American University of Paris in Political Science. He has taken senior management courses at Harvard University’s Kennedy School and Lausanne IMD (Switzerland).

Tourism constitutes a central component in the economy, social life, and geography of many cities in the world. This session will examine the intersection of smart cities and smart tourism and how it will change the tourism experience. How can a smart city become a smart tourism destination? In the transition to smart tourism, what will be the effects on wellness tourism development? How can smart tourism and wellness tourism development counteract the effects of ‘over-tourism’? What have cities done to encourage wellness experiences for both residents and visitors, thereby increasing happiness? How can cities increase innovation and technological tools and improve tourism competitiveness? How can a city be future-ready?
